Phoebe Litchfield and skipper Meg Lanning led Australia to a comfortable run-chase in a rain-hit first ODI of three-match women's series against Pakistan on Monday.
Set to chase 161 runs, Australia scored 158 for two in 28.5 overs when rain stopped the match and the hosts were declared winners via D/L method.
Litchfield and Lanning showed true potential and partnered strongly after Australia lost their opener, Beth Mooney, for the sum of just two runs.
Mooney fell prey to Diana Baig on an outside off-stump delivery that took an edge of her bat and went straight to hit stumps.
Lanning led Australia from the front and Litchfield countered Pakistan's bowling line alongside her captain to make sure a convincing start to the ODI series.
Litchfield smoked 78 runs off 92 balls laced with nine boundaries and a six. She remained not out and must have raised her bat in the dressing room as winning shot wasn't possible due to rain.
Lanning set the tone for Australia with her 76-ball 67 runs but couldn't stay at the crease when the job was almost done for the homies. Her magnificent stay saw nine boundaries overall.
Diana and Omaima Sohail bagged a wicket each.
Earlier, Nida Dar stood like a wall for Pakistan after they lost a couple of quick wickets. Nida and Bismah Maroof laid down a solid foundation but batters coming down failed to acclimatize on the situation.
Bismah fell after scoring 28 but Nida scored his 11th fifty to take Pakistan to 160-8 in 40 overs (reduced due to rain). The right-handed batter scored 59 off 88 including five boundaries and a six.
For Australia, Darcie Brown, Jess Jonassen, Tehlia McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, and Alana King shared a wicket apiece.
